Lightroom CC Classic Lightroom is a program a lot of photographers use in addition to Photoshop. Check it out and see what you think. It does a lot of things faster and better than Photoshop. Open Lightroom and follow along if you are interested.

Friday: Group Presentations:ISO (why you would adjust it, it's effects on exposure, how different ISO's look), Shutterspeed (include slow and fast examples, how you adjust it, effect on exposure), Aperture (include wide and narrow depth of field examples, explain depth of field, effect on exposure, how to adjust it), Exposure (how to find the correct exposure, examples of good and bad exposure), Camera Modes (include Av, TV, manual), Exposure Compensation (when would you use it, examples of how it helps), presentations. YOU teach the class. Show me before you show the class.
Studio Background Assignment - Go in the studio. Take a least 2 different shots of a person or persons against every background (using the key light). That includes the backgrounds against the walls. You don't need to use the white, lighted, draped background on the right as you walk into the room. The only way to make that work with lights is to NOT use the flash. It takes a lot of experimenting.
Seems we need a better definition of "every background". That would be:
3 paper backgrounds
2 cloth backgrounds
5 smaller backgrounds on the wall
This isn't a scavenger hunt. Experiment to get some good looks, good shots. Use gels, use the hairlight, different poses, etc.
Experiment with different gels and draping the brown/gray mottled muslin background. See me for tips.
There is an outlet to the left of the paper backgrounds you can use when you move the key light over to that side.
The best 2 due on your website before the end of the semester. I need to see all of the backgrounds in the contact sheet.

Mutant Self Portrait Assignment (optional - only do this if you are caught up on everything else. It will not help your grade a lot (20% of a normal photo assignment). ) - Put the finished digital file on your website by Friday next week. Title it: Mutant Self Portrait Assignment. This is a photo illustration assignment. Use a picture of you. It will work best if the person is against a solid background. You can have someone else take the picture. If you want, you can use the white studio background in class. Watch some of the tutorial videos HERE. The videos wouldn't play in Firefox for me, but they did in Safari and Chrome. The finished file needs to be 8x10 inches, 250 ppi. Turn in one file.

Parent Timeline Assignment - Due Dec 4 (you were given this assignment in week 11).
Project: Make a timeline showing one of your parent’s job history. This can be a Prezi, Powerpoint, or Google presentation.
Go HERE to get a Prezi account if you don't have one. Watch the tutorial video if you do not know how to use Prezi.
Goal: The goal of this project is to show student’s that their parent’s current job might not have been something they achieved right out of high school or even college, but rather something they worked towards over the years. Also, the hope is for student’s to identify what skills their parent learned from each job.
You will need to sit down with a parent and get a verbal listing of each job they have held from their first job to their current job. You can interview the parent of your choice. You will not need to list the years they held each job, but rather place them in chronological order. You will list the job, the skills they leaned from the job and have a picture that illustrates each position.
On the due date I'll have you show the presentation on your computer.
Take a screen shot of the first slide that shows a career and upload it to your Weebly site in the Assignment section. Title it, Parent Job History

Put the pictures you took for last weeks assignment (lets call this assignment A) in an assignment folder named last weeks assignment name. Make a contact sheet of them and put it/them in the same folder. Call me over to grade that you have them, and your research from last week. This is 50% of your assignment grade. This can't be made up or raised later.
I'll go over any new concepts you need to know.
Tuesday: Shoot pictures for the current assignment (assignment B).
Web site check.
Wednesday: In class day - Work on last weeks assignment (assignment A), get them ready for turning in this Friday (crop, color correct, vignette, dodge and burn, sharpen, etc.).
Thursday: Shoot pictures for the current assignment (assignment B).
Friday: In class day - Have me grade the assignment (assignment A) you got last week. I need to see the assignment on your Weebly site AND Photoshop files with the rulers showing, layers that show color correcting, vignette, dodging and burning, sharpening. and any other assignment requirement. Put your proof/contact sheet(s) below your assignment images. Be sure the photo of the week and journal are done for this week. Work on current assignment if you have extra time (assignment B).
You can't check out school cameras if it is raining. Take pictures after school on on the weekend with your camera or phone. Taking pictures during class time should be a last resort. There are a lot more interesting things to photograph out in the world.

Monday: Scape Picture Assignment - Pictures due next Monday. This assignment needs to have photographic integrity. Put the finished digital files on your website by Friday next week.
Head-shot Exercises: Go into the studio in groups of 4 or 5 (there are 9 of you). Have at least 3 poses to try. Take at least 3 pictures of each pose: really tight shot (chop of the top of their head), normal head-shot (where there is a little space above their head and you can see a few inches down their neck), and as close to a 3/4 shot as you can get (down to their waist). Id take at 2 or 3 pictures of each of those crops in case they blink or have a goofy expression. Also vary the expressions: serious, small small, little larger smile.People usually don't buy big toothy smiley pictures.
Put the pictures on the computer. Keep them ALL, don't throw any away, don't adjust them in any way, show them to me and we will talk about them.

Camera Basics review:
We'll break out the cameras and start learning how to use them.
1. Set the camera to TV mode.Take 50 pictures that are not blurry and are properly exposed (if the camera is unable to let in enough light through the aperture (aperture number blinks in the viewfinder), try turning up the ISO. If it still blinks, turn down the shutter speed. If the camera sets the speed too slow you will have a blurry picture. When you are all done we will look at them in class.
2. Set the camera to AV mode.Take 50 pictures that are not blurry and are properly exposed (if the camera is unable to let in enough light through the shutter (aperture number blinks in the viewfinder), try turning up the ISO. If it still blinks, open up (smaller number) the aperture. Even if the shutter speed isn't blinking you need to be aware of what it is. If the camera sets the speed too slow you will have a blurry picture. When you are all done we will look at them in class.
3. Set the camera to M mode.Take 50 pictures that are not blurry and are properly exposed in M mode. You have to look in the viewfinder and make sure the line is lined up with the center pointer. See illustration below. When you are all done we will look at them in class.
If this doesn't seem to make sense, shoot them again, and again, and...the goal is to learn how to use these modes creatively and successfully, not just try them.
